Katrina Pacey

Law for Social Change

Katrina is the managing partner of Pivot Legal LLP and a staff lawyer with Pivot Legal Society. She practices criminal, prison, mental health and human rights law. Katrina received her law degree and a Master of Arts in Women’s Studies from the University of British Columbia.  She was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2005 after completing her articles with John Conroy QC. While in law school, Katrina founded the UBC Law Students’ Social Justice Action Network and was active in the Downtown Eastside as a board member and campaigner with Pivot Legal Society. In 2003, she received a YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in recognition of her commitment to social justice.

Katrina has been involved in many Pivot Legal Society campaigns and is co-author of three Pivot reports, Voices for Dignity: A Call to End the Harms Cause by Canada’s Sex Trade Laws, Beyond Decriminalization: Sex Work, Human Rights and a New Framework for Law Reform, and To Serve and Protect: A Report on Policing in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Katrina is presently running two Pivot campaigns: the Sex Work Human Rights Campaign and the Health Campaign. She is also counsel for a group of sex workers who have initiated a constitutional challenge to the criminal laws relating to adult prostitution (Downtown Eastside Sex Workers United Against Violence Society and Kiselbach v. Her Majesty the Queen).
